To answer your question about comparing the live sound with the studio--we used the studio to do our 'dream' arrangements, where we could add parts to our hearts' content. But I'd say the drawing power of our live act was our versatility of material--top 40 to Broadway shows, etc., and our variety of musical sounds. Also, NOBODY had vibes on stage in our area, and Kurt will be the first to admit that just SEEING a set of beautiful gold-barred Musser vibes on the stage carries almost as much impact as hearing it. (Although I personally think Kurt is one of the best vibraphonists in the country.) We also tried to get the most variety out of our voices, often doubling 'ooh' and 'ahh' parts with flute or vibes to give a more haunting sound to background vocal parts. We even did a Glenn Miller medley using a combination of organ and Kurt on a Hohner Melodica to emulate the signature Glenn Miller sound. We tried everything, and boy, was it fun!
