Then there was the younger generation (many younger than myself) ...
Let's start with another old friend (my age)... Mike Longo: He played with Dizzy for 6 years (Dizzy spent many months in Ft. Lauderdale and N.Y. when he was not on the road and stayed with many friends down here.) Mike has his own career in New York. Check out this page from Wiki. It mentions all my friends and even "Porky's":
How about a few of the younger guys that grew up and drew experience from us "old guys"? One that comes to mind is Duffy Jackson (drummer): played with Count Basie, Sammy Davis Jr. and the list goes on... Then there was this young 15 year old skinny kid that used to hang out and practice his bass in the studio that I was the engineer in... We called him "Jaco". ...Ever hear of "Weather Report"? My longtime friend Alex Darqui was the one that gave "Jaco" his name in an email he sent to him...
So, we here in South Florida had the last laugh! ...
Least we forget, still, my best friend Ike for over 40 years... I didn't mention him because he only came in second at the Yamaha World Organ Championship in Japan...!
Footnote from Maiden Wine: On the topic of Ike, another noteworthy club performer from this time was Joe E. Neubauer, who, much like the Trilogy, found a new audience decades later with the reissue of his lost classic album, "Love Got in My Way". As it turns out, Ike did some session work on that record for SRS Studios. Says Ike: "All the sample tracks sound familiar- I can only hear my piano part on It's Always Been You; however, I might have played organ on 'Come On Sign'." Yet, another great lounge LP from the 70s South Florida music scene.
